BEST Science Books List Announced by E-STREAMS
In June, E-STREAMS announced the creation of an annual list for libraries of outstanding reference/research works in the fields of science and technology. The list, to be published in three installments, will be called BEST -- Best E-STREAMS Science and Technology. This year's first BEST titles can be viewed at www.e-streams.com. The complete 2004 BEST list will be announced in December, 2004.
"There is really no other award like the BEST list," said H. Robert Malinowsky, editor of E-STREAMS. "E-STREAMS fills a gap for academic and special libraries who have no review source focused on science and technology. We want to fill another gap with BEST by honoring a small group of titles which belong in the collection of every library."
E-STREAMS, begun in 1998, is published without charge 12 times per year, annually reviewing over 700 new reference/research works in engineering, agriculture, medicine, and the sciences. Over 240 librarians and other subject specialists write reviews for E-STREAMS. Nominated by this group, the final BEST titles are selected by a committee of E-STREAMS reviewers.
Malinowsky is Professor and Manager of Collections Development, University of Illinois at Chicago; a past winner of the Louis Shores-Oryx Press Award for excellence in the reviewing of books and other materials for libraries from the reference and Adult Services Division of the American Library Association; and in 2003 was inducted into the Special Libraries Association Hall of Fame.
E-STREAMS is published by YBP Library Services, Contoocook, New Hampshire. For more information, please visit www.e-streams.com.
